James Fadiman, PhD, has been called “America’s wisest and most respected authority on psychedelics and their use.” A pioneer in psychedelic research and co-founder of transpersonal psychology, he is best known for his mid-1960s studies on LSD and creativity, as well as for his seminal role in developing modern microdosing.
Shifting his focus after psychedelic research was banned, Jim returned to psychedelics with his 2011 book, The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide: Safe, Therapeutic, and Sacred Journeys. He has been researching microdosing for more than a decade, examining potential benefits for mental health, cognitive enhancement, physical and creative performance, and overall well-being.
Co-founder of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University) and a former president of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, Jim was featured in Michael Pollan’s 2022 Netflix documentary series How to Change Your Mind. He has written two novels as well as several psychology textbooks and other books, including 2020’s Your Symphony of Selves, co-authored with Jordan Gruber.
